In 1873, the Gregorian calendar was adopted in Japan, 5 years after the Meiji Revolution, after which the official date of the New Year became January 1 in modern Japan.
Traditional Christmas games are accepted on New Year. For example, Sugoroku – a game with table dice, Uta-Garuta – Christmas cards with poems, Release of an air snake, etc. The shops near the temple sell various Christmas talismans and souvenirs.
